Here We Go…

Hey, thank you for clicking on my page & welcome to my first attempt at blogging.

My name is Kayla and I am an Applied Languages student in the University of Limerick. I study advanced Irish & French as well as beginners Spanish. Needless to say it’s tough work but the hope is that you will all be with me on my journey to becoming a competent polyglot.

When I tell people that I am a languages student, the first question is always “so you want to be a teacher”. To keep the answer short and sweet, no. I didn’t choose to be a languages student because I have a particular career path in mind, I chose to study languages for the complete opposite reason; I have no idea what I want to do in the future, so I’m keeping my options open for now.

I’m not big into any sports, I’m not gifted in music or art, but I can confidently say that I am a travel fanatic. Any opportunity I get to explore a new place, learn about different cultures or speak with people from a village, town or city that I can’t call my own, you can bet I’ll seize it without the slightest bit of hesitation. A friend of mine recently asked if my feet are “allergic to Irish soil or what”. To be cliché about it, I am the embodiment of wanderlust, I have the travel bug, either description will do really. For example, I recently spent the weekend in Oslo and came back wanting to learn Norwegian (ett språk er aldri nok), and looking into all aspects or Norwegian history, culture and society.

I’m going to end it here before I start rambling on about my experience in Oslo (highly recommend it for a weekend trip btw).

I’m not the most creative writer, I apologize in advance if I bore you, but I promise I’ll try to make this as painless as possible for all of us.

Until next time,
